I think Hans and I don’t watch the same game of fut because last year Manchester United barely escaped Barcelona. In fact I would say they got a lucky break becauase in both legs I couldn’t see them put more than 5 passes together against Barcelona, they were outclassed in every department except for the lone goal, yes even Ronaldo looked like a mere amatuer against Zambrotta.

This year my predicition will be for the last 8 are Real Madrid, Barceleona, Inter Milan, Man Utd., Liverpool, Chelsea, Aletico Madrid, VillaReal.

Champions: Real Madrid

Why they have got a well oiled machine and their players are all cream.

Odd & Even Numbers:

Numbers divisible by 2 are even and if not odd, but 0 is considered even

Prime Number – whole numbers that can be divided evenly by only themselves and 1. The exception is: 1, 0. Whats the smallest prime? 2; example: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23

Divisibility, Factors, Multiples:

dividend/divisor = quotient

“divide evenly” a division of 1 integer by another yeilding a remainder of 0

If a number can be divided evenly by another number than dividend, or fist number, is said to be divisble by the divisor, the second number.

a number that can divide another number( divisor) evenly is said to be a factor of the divisor

product is a result of a multiplication or an expression that identifies the factors to be multiplied. product = factor * factor; 2,7 are factors of 14, 14 is a multiple of 2,7

multiple of a number is product of that number with any integer; every number is a multiple of itself

Fractions

Every fraction is quotient of numbers , the quantity obtained when the numerator is divided by the denominator

We deal with base 10 number system so 82.537 = 8*10 + 2*1 + 5*1/10 + 3*1/100 + 7*1/1000

conversion of decimal to fraction, look at how many places after the decimal and that tells you the denominator examples: 84.1 = 841/10, 9.17 = 917/100, .612 = 612/1000

When adding or subtracting decimals, line up the decimals when you write the numbers in a vertical column

when multiplying decimals, multiply numbers as usual, then place the decimal point in the answer according to the total number of decimal places in the numbers; example 45.1 * .3 = 13.53, because there is 1 number behind the decimal in each of the two factors( terminology goes multiplicand and multiplier )

dividing decimals move the decimal in the divisor till it shows no decimal then move the dividend’s decimal the same number of places, adding 0′s if nessary

Averages, Ratios, Porpotions, Percentages

average = sum of all numbers / # of elements in the set

average is same as mean

median the middle value in a set containing an odd number of data items, in a set containing an even number of items median is the average of the 2 middle values

Mode is the value that appears most often in a data set.

Ratio is a comparison of 2 numbers, can be written as a fraction like 2/3 or as 2 numbers side-by-side seperated only by a colon like 2:3

porportions describe 2 ratios that are equal, example 5 is to 6 as 10 is to 12, 5/6=10/12

Percent means “part of 100″, so 5% means 5 parts of 100

What percent of 80 is 5?

Percentage Problem:

Quality Increases from 600 to 750, then Percent Increase is found by dividing the amount of the increase by the base quantity number and then multiply it by 100: $latex\frac{increase}{base}\times 100=?\%increase&s=4$

Geometry

A line can be named by a single letter or 2 points on a line

Bisector divides a line segment into 2 equal parts

An Angle can be named 3 ways:

A bisector of an angle divides the angle into 2 equal parts, example:

Which is the bisector? line C

Acute angle > 0 degrees but less than 90 degrees

Obtuse angle > 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees

Straight Line is 180 degrees

2 angles that form a straight line are called Supplementary, the sum of 2 supplementary angles is 180 degrees

2 angles that form a right angle are Complementary, the sum of two complementary angles is 90 degrees

Vertical angles are formed when 2 lines intersect, vertical angles are equal. Example:

Definitions:

Comodity: mass produced unspecialized product

run-time system: program that provides services for running a program but is not considered to be part of an operating system

heuristic: problem solving by experimental and especially trial-an-error methods

pragmatics: dealing with facts and actual occurances; practical

short-shrift: little or no attention to consideration

Parts of Compiler:

Scanner/Lexical Analyzer

1st stage of compiling

takes as input a stream of characters

outputs a stream of words along with their syntactic categories

collects symbols to form words

applies rules to determine if each word is legal in source language

Parser

primary responsibility recognize syntax

check if a program is a valid sentence in the syntactic programming model

Preface:

Compiler Front Ends are commodity these days.

processors becoming performance sensitive

performance of compiled code depends on compiler’s ability to optimize for a specific processor and features

the changes above affect the way compiler is constructed

Compilers development focuses on 2 items:

optimization

code generation

New hires in a compiler co. far more likely to work on a code generator on a new processor or modify an optimization pass than to work on a scanner or parser

Motivation:

a compiler is a program that takes source language and translates into assembly for execution on a target architecture

part of this translation a compiler must:

determine if the program is valid

map an input program onto the finite resources of a target computer

manipulate several environments

allocates resources

orchestrate behavior of run-time data structures

for an ouput program to have a reasnoble performance a compiler must

manage hardware latencies in functional units

predict the flow of execution and demand for memory

reason about the independence and dependence of different machine-level operations in the program

a modern compiler contains:

greedy heuristic searches

deterministic finite automata that recoginze words in input

fixed point algorithms that help reason about program behavior

simple theorem provers

algebraic simplifiers that try to predict the values of expressions

solvers for diophontine equations, Pressburger arithmetic – used to analyze: array subscripts, classic algorithsm, data stuctures such as hash tables, graph algorithms and sparse set implementations

Balance

Engineering a Compiler(EAC), for use in an intro course on design and implementation of compilers

EAC:

discusses many of the problems faced by compiler people and teqniques used to solve these problems

material rebalanced for more coverage on optimization and code generation and less on front end, material students will need in the job market

focuses on best-practices techniques( used for modern commercial or research compiler):

static single assignment form

list scheduling

graph-coloring register allocation

contains info for the advance student or practicing professional

Advance Topics contains issues and techniques beyond the undergrad course

chapter 9 & 10 are more in depth than typical undergrad course

Approach

Intermediate representation, a representation done without any consideration, for compiler has a deep impact on the rest of the compiler:

time and space

the ease with which different algorithms can be applied

So today I finally feel like I am done with Chapter 11 notes and feel I have a decent grasp of it, though it would have been nice to do the problems. I also finished reading the paper my friend gave me over Multi Stage Programming but I feel I am going to have to make a few more passes before I get a better understanding of whats happening. The notation on the type system is fucking wicked I never seen anything like that it doesn’t look like BNF. I do want to make a comment about my first blog whose intention was self-teaching, I really didn’t feel it helped as much as writing in a notebook to the contrary it kind of made it the central role due to the latex issues, when I get some more chances I will try to do more but I hope it shows its value later down the road hell at least I can say I learned a squinch of latex.

I also was able to aquire the tow hitch, wiring harness, tounge, and ball for the trailer I will put on the car to take my wife’s things to Amarillo Texas. Tommorro I begin the daunting task of connecting the wiring harness to the car, woopee that will be fun. I also have to get the hitch on but from first appearance doesn’t seem that complicated, but we will see.

Today Jhoana was totally freaking pissed on me because I left some tupper ware in her car with food in it and it has problaly been there for like weeks if not months. Talked with Fenglin about his brother who works at Carnegie Mellon somewhere in the computer science department and says he is going to speak with him soon. I don’t expect a miracle but doesn’t hurt to try to see if I can get a chance at one of the top cs programs in the nation, wouldn’t that be so funny if I did get in.

so i am about to finish some notes for a chapter in a book. so far it has been a bit of a headache and i am content it is over, but why you ask? well first thing i am a bit mifted at is wordpress insistance at always putting spaces between every lines but this is not such a big deal, what really gets me is the latex part what works what doesn’t its a bit unerving and I will try to use it as sparingly as possible. anyways i am going to start another entry for a journal i got from a friend to jot down some notes. what would be nice is an offline editor as it takes some time to repost the post, actually what should be done is offline editor or some ajax editor online this would problaly increase the speed alot.
